Unter den Linden
Unter
den Linden is former East Berlin's posh boulevard.
It
is named for its Linden trees (lime trees) that line the
grassed pedestrian mall between two carriageways.
Unter
den Linden runs from the Brandenburg
Gate to the Museumsinsel. Major streets
crossing Unter den Linden are Friedrichstraße
and Wilhelmstraße.
The street is at
the heart of the historic section of Berlin dating from the 17th and
18th centuries. Impressive buildings are lined up one after the
other.
Buildings along the street
include the Hotel Adlon, the Russian Embassy, the Berlin State
Library, the Berlin State Opera, Humboldt
University,
the Cathedral of St. Hedwig, the Neue Wache war
memorial, the Zeughaus (German Historical Museum ), the Alte
Kommandantur and the Berliner Dom.
Like in any other bigger Berlin street in summer somewhere there's always a party or some kind of event going on.
