The prison...

... and the lawyer's church

Hauptbahnhof

"Lehrter Straße", as seen from about 200 meters away from Hauptbahnhof. Will the street ever turn into a red light district?

Typical streets

"Westhafen", Berlin's greatest port for trading ships.

"Großmarkt Beusselstraße", Berlin's central market for fruit and vegetable, where all the merchants pick up their bananas at four in the morning.

This is the district of Moabit

Moabit used to be famous for Berlin's Central Criminal Court and prison. The building sure looks quite impressive. The adjoining church is renting out most of its rooms to lawyers. Lots of them and it must be a quite wealthy church.
"Going to Moabit" in Berlin is a synonym for going to prison, so watch out what you're saying.
The prison is located at the intersection of Alt-Moabit and Rathenower Straße.

Today the main point of interest in Moabit is Berlin's new central train station "Hauptbahnhof" (>>> more).

A peculiar street is "Lehrter Straße", leading from the station into Moabit. In any other German city a street that close to the central train station would be a nightlife strip and red light district. Not so in Berlin.
Probably that's because all the tourists leaving Hauptbahnhof are heading south and walk straight to the nearby districts of Tiergarten and Mitte to look at Reichstag, Brandenburger Tor and the Holocaust memorial.
Nobody ever turns north to go to Moabit.

It is a traditional working-class residential area and there's not much to look at for a tourist.
