Kurfürstendamm
The
Kurfürstendamm probably is Berlin’s most famous
avenue.
What the Champs-Élyées is for Paris, the "Kudamm"
- as the street is called locally - is for
Berlin. It’s full of exclusive shop, hotels, restaurants,
theatres, car show rooms, and in contrast to Berlin’s other
main shopping street Friedrichstr. it’s broad, has wide
pavewalks, lots of trees, street musicians and street artists.
The Kudamm starts out at Gedächtniskirche (memorial church)
and leads about four kilometers to the district of Halensee.
The sightseeing part is between Gedächtniskirche and
Adenauerplatz.
If you don’t want to walk all the way, busses 19 and 29 are
going up and down the boulevard. You also can rent rikshas.
Don't forget to visit the
adjoining streets as they have a multitude of exotic restaurants. As
there are Bleibtreustr., Knesebeckstr., Schlüterstr.
In nearby
Europa-Center you'll find one of Berlin's most interesting
cklocks. It's the highest building you can see, the one with the Mecedes-star on top.
The Kudamm is a good example
for Berlin’s sometimes absurd
system of numbering houses. It starts with number 11 and
at Lehniner Platz right after number 76 you find
number 90.
