Hackescher Markt
Named after Berlin's city
commander Hans Christoph Friedrich Graf von Hacke,
who constructed the marketplace in 1830, Hackescher Markt was destroyed
in World War II and had to wait for it's renovation until 1992.
Now it is a central tourist
area with lots of restaurants, bars, cafes and cinemas.
Next
to the market in Rosenthaler Straße you find the "Hackesche Höfe" complex, a
labyrinth of courtyards brimming with cafés, restaurants,
boutiques and art galleries. A cinema, theatre and the Oranienburger
Straße nightlife strip complete the list of attractions in
this increasingly popular (and tourist-ridden) area.
