The remains of the wall in Niederkirchner Str.

The construction site

Topographie des Terrors

The "Topography of Terror" is a documentation center not only about Nazi terror but also for East Germany’s communistic terror regime.
Well, it’s not really a center, although they started building one in 1993. Up to now (2008) you can’t see too much of the building, instead you see a lot of tourists reading posters in the cheaply built open-air gallery and looking at the remains of the wall.
But now things are taking on a new level. In a wise decision the Berlin politicians proudly have set up a webcam, so everybody can look at the progress of the construction work via internet. That’s fantastic, impaired only by the little detail that there is no progress whatsoever...

The memorial is located at the intersection of Wilhelmstr. and Niederkirchner Str., the latter being called "Prinz Albrecht Str." during the Nazi era, the name a synonym for "Gestapo", as that organization was located here.
