This is the district of Grunewald

Grunewald is Berlin’s millionaire district. Nowhere else in Berlin you can see so much villas and mansions. The district was established in 1880 as a quarter for bankers, employers and managers. Not much has changed since then - maybe apart from some TV or movie star.

The district has many lakes:
Grunewaldsee, Herthasee, Hubertussee, Königssee, Teufelssee, Dianasee and Hundekehlesee. Best for having a swim are Teufelssee and Grunewaldsee.

Grunewald – meaning – „Green Woods“ has one of Berlin’s biggest forests and is heavily frequented by joggers.

The Grunewald S-Bahn station has a tragic history, as it was here, where thousands of Jews were stuffed into trains and deported to the concentration camps in Poland. Today there's a memorial called Gleis 17.

Within the forest is the artificial Teufelsberg hill, once a listening station of the US National Security Agency.
